Sequoia Takes 56 Slides To Say It’s Hiding Under The Table
Techcrunch has a copy of a 56-slide PowerPoint presentation that Sequoia Capital, one of the world’s most highly-regarded venture capital groups, just gave to their portfolio companies. Fifty six slides! Given how many presentations these guys sit though, it’s kind of shocking they would inflict that number of slides on anyone ;-) Take a look at it for yourself. What did Sequoia have to say with all these slides? Just one thing really (slide 52 is the key slide) - all the partners at Sequoia Capital are currently hiding under the table, and will be attempting to make as few new investments as possible for the foreseeable future. Why they couldn’t say this with one slide, though, I don’t know.
None of this is a surprise - VCs always get scared when when the water gets choppy (and it’s obviously more than a bit choppy right now). For sure, pretty much all VC groups will have a similar outlook. It’s partly a rational response, but not entirely so. The truth is, though, some of the most valuable companies have been created during downturns.
