Have been a dot mac subscriber since launch in 2000, and never had any downtime, just got confirmation from Apple we keep old user@mac.com and get user@me.com, as well as the five user alias features of dot mac, which can be changed on the fly, so very handy for using to subscribe to online services etc. Spam filtering features of dot mac have been best of class - it's always been a far better service then Gmail/Hotmail/Yahoo, and now with push, it just got better....

You're right - MobleMe was first registered by Apple in 2006. However, I thought the view was that they had abandoned the idea of using it... until people noticed recently that Apple seemed to have bought Me.com around Dec 2007.

It will be interesting to see how well MobileMe works. It's a good idea, though, for them to offer push e-mail/calendaring/contacts. So, it will be all about the execution - people go crazy, for example, if there is any downtime with their e-mail.

Me and MobileMe trademarks where obtained by Apple several years ago that's why everyone knew it was coming. Think at one time they where thinking of launching iPhone as an MVNO operator and they bought a data centre, but obviously much better if someone like Google doing the backend - not sure how they're doing MobileMe now, not sure if the back end was mentioned. Waiting for the Quicktime A/V stream now....
