Google And Intel On The Benefits Of Android

I wrote yesterday that it wasn’t clear if, despite all the noise, Google is serious about Android being open (Is Android Really Going To Be Open?). Today, people have today been digging around and found a couple of amusing things on this topic. First up, it’s a quote from the Android FAQ. Talking about Android being open, the organisation says it’s great that it’s open, because it means:
Innovations and differentiated features can be kept proprietary
LOL! Terrific! Nothing wrong with proprietary innovations, of course - they’re great; but let’s not pretend that Android is going to be open. However, if Android isn’t open, what is it?
Well, Intel is part of the Android “Open” Handset Alliance. They should be right in the loop, so perhaps they can shed some light on Android for everyone. Gary Willihnganz, of Intel’s mobile group, told News.com:
We don’t have a good feel for what it’s all about, or what its capabilities are, much less any idea of how consumers are going to be able to value (it)
Marvelous! That clears everything up - I get it now! Anyway, much kudos to robilad for finding these quotes, and giving me a laugh ![]()

Yes. No idea why Schmidt made such a big deal out of the browser at launch.
