Does Anyone Use Anything Other Than Google For Search?

I was just checking my access logs for June, and it struck me that the search engine market share statistics as reported in public surveys seem rather different to what I see. What I see from my logs is that few people use anything other than Google - either for general searching, or for specialised blog searching (Technorati being the only other blog search engine that gets a look-in).

All of Yahoo!, Microsoft, Ask, Technorati are pretty much nowhere when compared to Google. To make this concrete, the market share stats I’m seeing are as follows:

  • Google - 95% share (62% text searches; 32% image searches)
  • Yahoo! - 3.5% market share
  • Microsoft - 0.5% market share
  • Everything else combined 1% market share

These statistics are in line with my own anecdotal experience: for regular web-searching, I don’t think I know anyone that uses anything other than Google.
