Ferrari 599 Spider - A Car Ferrari Should Make!

In a recent discussion on this blog, about the design of Apple laptops (I said, the design wasn’t as great as other Apple products), it was suggested by an Apple supporter that if I don’t like Apple laptops, then I probably wouldn’t like Ferraris either ;-)

Actually, nothing could be further from the truth. I have considered buying Ferraris in the past, but in the end always resisted the temptation (they’re a just a bit too expensive for my liking, and not realistic as everyday transport). I always said I would never buy a brand new V12 Ferrari though, because they tend to depreciate like stones. The V8s are rather better buys in that regard. However, the Ferrari 599 had started to change my mind on that (even though I really couldn’t afford one right at this moment)… and then… I came across the above amazing design for a Ferrari 599 Spider (the design was done by Ferrari fan Michiel Van Den Brink). Wow! Really… just Wow!

Ferrari should make this car. Exactly like this.

Or… maybe they shouldn’t… ‘cos I’m really not sure I’d be able to stop myself from ordering one if they did!

Pfffffffffff, rather have a VW, since they are the best car engineers in the world, to be precise, I’d rather have GTI W12-650
    with 650hp and 553 lb-ft. of torque

That Ferrari is no doubt a nice 20th century style though.

VW make well-engineered, mass-produced cars, sure. Ferraris are more like hand-made works of art though.

I was invited on a tour of the main Ferrari UK centre - Maranello Sales - a little while ago. It’s not until you see the inside of the engines that you can appreciate just how much love and attention to detail goes into these cars. Really amazing…

And you think the VW engineers aren’t as passionate? or that VW hasn’t spent a lot of research and development in it’s products? The W12-650 may look like a mass produced car, but is it really? These same VW engineers made the 1001 bhp Bugatti Veyron engine remember, where it is estimated that each car cost about 5 million in R&D. You can’t even put a price tag on the GTI W12-650. Pound for pound, there’s more man hours and passion spent on the production of this VW then any Ferrari, but obviously they’re different markets. You can either buy a car to drive from A to B, to increase your chances of attracting for sex, or you buy a car to enjoy the engineering excellence of the 21st century and the driving experience resulting from that. I know where the GTI W12-650 fits in this scheme…..

Work of art, oooooo, you know how to get me started don’t you. Hmmm, so let me see, a work of art, why don’t we make a poll and ask a bunch of artists which car pleases the aesthetic sences more. A Ferrari coupe that looks like a copy of a million other coupe designs, or something that combines sculpting of air in to engineering prescision. Hold your prejudice back and view the design of that GTI W12-650 like a fine sculpture, and let it speak for itself…
