Dell Announces Laptops With Flash Drives

Around the beginning of March, I wrote that flash memory prices were now at a level where we could expect mainstream laptop makers to start offering solid state flash drives. Yesterday, Dell announced that laptops with flash solid state drives (SSDs) were available to order in the US (and will be available soon in Europe and Asia).

I priced up a Dell Latitude D420 with a 32GB SSD - it came out at $1748. In March, my estimate was that it would be possible to pick up mainstream laptops with 32GB SSDs for $1500 - so I wasn’t too far off…
