The Alexa Conundrum. Could Stumbleupon help resolve it?
Let’s be honest - everyone who’s interested in looking at how web-based businesses are doing looks at Alexa. We all know it’s imperfect. We all know it can be gamed. But it’s the best tool we have; and people take notice of it. Now, it would be interesting if Stumbleupon served up some similar stats to Alexa, but I don’t think they do . So, Alexa is pretty much the only game in town.
But there’s a conundrum - I don’t know anyone that has the Alexa toolbar installed. The last time I had the Alexa toolbar installed was so many years ago, I can’t even remember when it was. So, I have to wonder how representative the sampling is; and critically if Alexa is completely missing some really important stuff.  As I said in the first paragraph of this blog entry, it would be interesting if Stumbleupon served up some Alexa-like stats. That would at least give people some independent stats to compare to…
