The State Of HDTV & Accepting Bribes From Hardware Companies

In the wake of the Microsoft giving a few laptops with Vista installed to bloggers, with the hope of getting some reviews, there’s been a whole load of hot air floating around the blogosphere. Some people think Microsoft is “bad bad bad” for doing this, and others think it’s a good idea.

My view. It doesn’t matter. If people are honest, they will write an honest review. If they’re not honest, they might write a dishonest, biased review - you know, like the ones you read in so many places on-line, and in print magazines.

Anyway, I’m interested in receiving free high-definition TVs for review, and for me to keep. I’ve been looking at buying an HDTV, but the quality of the products out in the market seems really low. I haven’t yet found one that completely meets my needs. I’m shocked. So, if you’re a manufacturer, and you have a really great screen, send me one for free, and I’ll review it.

Here’s my policy:

1. If the HDTV has horrible blurry motion smear, or uneven backlighting, or horrible digital processing of the picture, or poor viewing angles, or can’t display black properly, or doesn’t accept 1080p inputs, or has some other problem, I will throw a brick through the screen and throw the TV away. I will not keep it. As evidence, I will film this process and put the video on YouTube.

2. If I like the TV, I will write a review that says - This is the only HDTV I’ve seen that I think is worth having. Go out and buy one. I will keep the TV and enjoy watching the new season of 24 in HD.

Readers of this blog should be assured that my reviews will be honest.
