Bad Sammy Davis Jr.
Steve Gillmor has a problem. Me. Not really. But, I read his blog today oh boy…
I have to confess, I enjoy Steve’s writing, even though I find it really hard to understand… (I know I’m not the only one). Anyway, I think I got some of it after three or four readings. I’ve already said my piece on the Google search API deprecation thing, so I won’t go into that again. Steve said this stuff seems “self-correcting”. Well, yes. Almost everything is. The question is: over what period of time? I mean, is Office dead yet?
Then Steve asks - what is Sun afraid of when it comes to Java? He suggests it might be Adobe’s Apollo platform eroding Java’s lead on devices. Maybe in the future, but not yet. For various reasons, I had thought it was probably should be Flash Lite, at least in the short-term.
However, even after several readings of Steve’s blog, I simply don’t get the point of what seems to be a key question he’s asking. Specifically I don’t get why he asks why Jonathan Schwartz wrote this blog. Isn’t it obvious? Wasn’t Jonathan simply hinting that Sun was about to announce the Open Sourcing of the Java (ME) platform? What did I miss?
Oh, and as for bad Sammy Davis Jr? Well, there ain’t none…
