Toolbar Nonsense. Google Copies Yahoo Copies…
So… you’ve probably seen that Yahoo! and Google uber-bloggers Jeremy Zawodny and Matt Cutts have got caught up in a “who copied who” war of words, when talking about the design download pages for the companies’s respective IE7 browser toolbars, bundled with the IE7 browser. See Jeremy’s original post, and Matt’s follow-up.
I think all this misses the real point. I’ve blogged before about toolbar distribution, and how companies are desperate for people to use their toolbars. But the main point bears repeating - I don’t know ANYONE who wants to use a Google toolbar, a Yahoo! toolbar, or any other toolbar. And, it’s really annoying for unsuspecting people when these companies trick them into installing these things by bundling, because once they’re installed, most people can’t figure out how to get rid of them.
