Zune Team’s Goals - Stretch Objectives?

Looks like the Zune team really set themselves some stretch objectives for the sales performance of their new MP3 player. Apparently, the objective was:

To become the second biggest seller of 30GB hard drive-based players

Talk about good things happening when you narrow the category! Let’s see, in that particular market segment, aside from the Zune, we have: the Apple 30GB iPod; the Creative Zen Vision:M 30GB; the Toshiba 30GB Gigabeat; and errr… that’s about it!

You have to wonder why they didn’t set themselves the objective of having the second-best selling player in the category, “30GB players having names beginning with the letter ‘Z’”. That way, at least the brown Zune could be hailed a success ;-)
