Blog Comment Spam Represents 97% Of Comments

Spam

Of course, with anti-spam systems like Akismet, comment spam on blogs doesn’t really work. Yes, the occasional spam message makes it through, but the number of spam comments the system misses is pretty small.

That doesn’t stop the comment spammers trying though. I just did a quick calculation for this blog on the number of real comments (thank you everyone who’s contributed their thoughts) versus the number of spam comments.

I’ve had over 14,000 spam comments on this blog, which accounts for 97% of the comments posted/attempted to be posted here. I guess not everyone is using comment spam filters - otherwise the spammers wouldn’t keep trying to use this lame approach to SEO (search engine optimisation).

Yes, that might be a reason for it. Or another could be that most bloggers “just want to blog” and doesn’t care - arrggh - about it. They even doesn’t see it as a problem. :( But I hope that the word “use anti-spam solutions like akismet, bb2, cpr and SK2 will spread and spread… until it has reached everyone. :)
