Personally I have no intention of insulting any Intel Mac by booting it in XP, running through virtualization or emulation being another matter, however, this does now provide a hard bench mark for the third party developers like M$ and Adobe, who can no longer pass the buck back to Apple by blaming hardware performance difference instead of their own badly written sloppy code. If M$ can make Office run fast and smooth on Intel processors running XP then there is no more excuse they can use to not make the same, if not better, performance running in Mac OS X. This is a very important validation method Apple now has to prevent monopoly induced games played by third parties. The Mac industry has been very uncomfortable with Adobe after its Macromedia aquisition and overt flirtation with M$ and its expression of preferred platform. Adobe is just not the company it used to be, its grown too big and with that comes laziness in innovation. Whooo-hooooo! I don't expect it to release the iPod phone by the 1st April special event as it would not have had the time to get the network infrastructure ready, which is a shame since I need a new phone and was waiting for the one chip p990i, but for sure we should get the 6G iPod Video with bluetooth. No news on Video over wifi streaming so one wonders what's holding up the Airport Extreme with AirVideo - maybe they're saving it for a new form factor toy but more probably Jobs is fustrated by the slow emergence of standarisation from the N-wars being held up by the 40 Mhz in 5 Ghz band range dilemma (http://wifinetnews.com/archives/006382.html). It would be very easy to add full PDA functionality to 6G iPod video since iPods have half PDA functionality already with syncing iApp data and with bluetooth it would be easy to link to a keyboard. Tough game plan here, Apple probably has a perfect combination of iPod/Phone/PDA but its being inhibited by the external factors needed to make this happen. In terms of innovation, Apple's been kept busy by the Intel transition but it is about time for one of those *BIG-WOW* new gadgets that Jobs is famous for pulling out of the bag. An Apple *BIG-WOW* gadget I define as something that's not based on or an evolution of an exisiting product line. So that's not including full PDA functionality to 6G iPod video since iPods have half PDA functionality already with syncing iApp data. Considering all the above, using exisiting technology, and given the external inhibitory forces, it would be the right time for a large screen PDA professional gadget, an ultra portable keyboard-less laptop - something that'll kill Oregami at birth in one blow, Thought less syncing and one step closer to a true wearable computer, smaller market then the iPod target, but the influential power users stuck to corporate phone contracts right now. You keep your old battered contract phone hidden in your pocket, but you'll actually use it from the *Big-Wow* gadget via bluetooth. Mind shift will occour in the trend setters, memes will be spread and the road is now ready for the Apple phone service and MobileMe to complete the plan.
