Sun Ultra 20 Workstation - Now With Dual-Core Opteron
With Sun just announcing their new dual-CPU range of Ultra 40 workstations, I headed on over to the web-site to take a look. What caught my eye, however, was not the Ultra 40 workstations (nice though they are). Rather, it’s that you can now get Ultra 20s with dual-core Opterons. Not sure if this is new or not, but I’d not noticed it before. The “off-the-shelf” spec for the dual-core CPU Ultra 20 is as follows:
1 AMD Opteron 180 CPU (dual-core)
Quadro FX 1400 Graphics
2GB ECC PC3200 DDR-400 (2 * 1 GB DIMM) RAM
250GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
Solaris 10
That, combined with one of those value-for-money 24inch Dell LCD (1900×1200) widescreen monitors, is a pretty tempting package…
