Firefox 2.0 Nearing Beta - Please Don’t Forget To Fix 1.5

It seems that development of Firefox 2.0 is nearing a beta release. It’s great to see continued innovation at Mozilla. However, I’d like to put in a plea for the developers to fix 1.5 too.

I’m still on Firefox version 1.07 because, frankly, Firefox 1.5 is unusable on all the computers I’ve tried, under heavy use, due to frequent crashes. Because of the crash bugs, just over a month ago, I wrote about downgrading from 1.5 back to 1.07. To quantify this, by frequent, I mean that lock-ups followed by crashes happened more than once an hour. This compares to my experience with 1.07 almost never crashing on multiple systems. I’m not the only person that experiences crash bugs with 1.5 e.g. see here, and here.

So - just to be clear, let me say that I’m a massive fan of Firefox. This post is just a plea for the developers to not lose sight of browser stability when implementing new features.

Just complete uninstall Firefox (and profiles too), then install 1.5. It works. Really ;)

Thanks for that Diego. I will try that route, and see if it makes a difference to 1.5 stability.
