Next Version Of Java To Address Start-Up Bottleneck

The next version of Java - Java SE 6 (codenamed Mustang) - is set to address one the platform’s last remaining performance bottlenecks - application/applet start-up time. If the speed-ups achieved turn out to be significant, this can only help lead a resurgence in the popularity of Java applets, and an increase in the number of Java applications on the desktop.

The speed-up has been enabled by the development of a brand new “Java sandbox”. Sun has launched an initiative to find security holes in the system, so that they can fixed before Java SE 6 is released.
