Nokia Grabs 3G Market Share
Well, it’s taken some time, but in Q2 2005, Nokia took the leadership position in worldwide shipments of 3G handsets, with a 17% market share. That is, it shipped just over 1.5 million of the 9 million 3G handsets that shipped during the quarter.
The market for 3G is still pretty small - around 20% of the total mobile handset market - but taking a leadership so early is a good sign for Nokia, and positions the company well as low-cost 3G phones begin to hit the mass market.
